A Deep Learning Model (AI) for Mapping Land Cover - City of Boise

Presenter: Tim Maguire

The objective of this presentation is to describe a methodology for using ESRI’s deep learning models to map the land cover of the City of Boise’s Open Space Reserves. The City of Boise uses land cover data to evaluate wildfire risk, assess the potential presence and location of invasive species, support restoration planning and mitigation opportunities, and inform recreation user experience. The city desired a model that they can employ to monitor change in their OSRs on a two-year cycle. Free NAIP imagery is acquired for the State of Idaho every two years. Thus, the outcome of this project provided the city with a low-cost, repeatable monitoring program.
