Job Description
Terra Designworks is seeking a talented landscape architect in training who will act as design staff and project manager to a small team that specializes in high-end residential projects on steep terrain. The optimal candidate is passionate about the challenges of placing homes on mountainsides and thinking outside the box. The difficulty and challenges that our projects present should ignite in you a positive, can-do approach to solving challenging projects in ways that are dynamic and sensitive to the landscape.
The Landscape Designer will assist in the production of landscape plans from concept to completion and create 3D digital models that convey the design vision to the clients and team. This role requires excellent organizational skills, proactivity and effective communication to ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget and to high-quality standards. Working alongside the owner and other design staff, the team member will collaborate with clients, design teams and contractors to align each project with client priorities and the firm’s vision. Primary job responsibilities include developing schematic site plans, design development drawings, construction documents and 3D digital models, as well as construction administration. Project management responsibilities include running projects from start to finish with oversight by the owner. This includes assisting in developing contracts and fees, managing lower-level staff, reviewing deliverables, performing site visits and keeping projects on budget. This position offers the opportunity to evolve, grow and develop new areas of expertise.
Experience and Skills Required
Bachelor’s or master’s degree in landscape architecture.
At least 2 years of experience in a related role.
At least 1 year of experience in a project management role.
Experience working on multiple projects simultaneously and the ability to meet fast-paced project timelines and take on diverse projects.
In-depth knowledge of landscape architecture design principles, construction methods and sustainable practices.
Demonstrated success in managing client relationships, project timelines and budgets.
Ability to work in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.
Proficiency in industry-standard software, such as AutoCAD/Civil 3D, Land F/X, Rhino, Adobe Creative Suite, Revit, SketchUp, Lumion and Microsoft Office Suite.
Excellent communication and presentation skills, both written and verbal.
Strong graphic communication skills, including sketching, rendering, and proficiency in digital media and software.
Demonstrated experience with grading design and drainage design.
Creative problem-solving and technical design abilities.
Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
Licensure or a commitment to gain licensure in the state of Montana.
Working knowledge of Rocky Mountain plant materials is a plus.

The job requires a strong understanding of the design process and excellent verbal and graphic communication skills, including conceptual design, presentation graphics, hand drawing and construction documentation. Essential skills include project management, site design, grading design, construction documentation, and experience with regulatory processes and permitting.
