Eric Sweet, PLA

President
Second Nature Consulting, Billings, Montana

Erik Sweet is a Partner at Second Nature Consulting and serves as President of the Idaho–Montana Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA). With more than 27 years of experience, Erik has built a diverse portfolio of work across the United States, ranging from public parks and schools to athletic facilities, commercial development, and large-scale planning projects.

Erik earned his Bachelor of Science in Landscape Architecture from Washington State University in 1994 and began his career in Missoula, Montana. He spent much of his career working nationally before returning home to Montana in 2019. He is licensed in multiple states from Iowa to Washington and continues to lead complex, multi-disciplinary site development projects across the country.

A strong advocate for professional licensure, Erik has served on the ASLA National Landscape Architect Registration Exam (LARE) Committee and has supported hundreds of emerging professionals through licensure preparation. He is the author of a nationally recognized LARE study guide and has been teaching review courses across the country for more than 18 years.

In his current leadership role with the Idaho–Montana ASLA Chapter, Erik is focused on elevating the profession in the region through education, outreach, and advocacy. His long-term goals include supporting the growth of the University of Idaho’s Landscape Architecture Program and advancing the effort to establish an accredited Landscape Architecture degree program at Montana State University.

Megan Terry, PLA, SITES AP

President Elect
Water and Environmental Technologies | Butte, MT

Megan Terry serves as the President-Elect of the Idaho-Montana Chapter of ASLA. A licensed Landscape Architect and SITES Accredited Professional, she holds a degree in landscape architecture from the University of Idaho.

Born and raised in Southwest Montana in a multi-generational logging family, Megan developed a deep respect for the land early on, witnessing both the beauty and the challenges of human impact on natural systems. Her summers as a wildland firefighter across the western U.S. gave her a front-row seat to the resilience and fragility of mountain desert environments, inspiring her systems-based approach to design and planning. Megan has a passion for top-down remediation, socially conscious planning, and nature-based design.

Christopher Hawkins

Christopher Hawkins is currently serving as the President and has served on the Executive Committee for over 12 consecutive years in various roles. After receiving both bachelor and master’s degrees in landscape architecture from the University of Idaho, he joined the integrated design team at The Land Group in Eagle, Idaho. Christopher has a broad range of experience from large-scale master planning, urban design, infrastructure design, and public engagement. Christopher is committed to the success of our community, the progress of the profession and the happiness of his family. Serving on the Executive Committee, he can fulfill this mission as he assists local agencies with smart development policies and engages the public to expose everyone to many benefits that landscape architects offer to land development and conservation. Outside of his professional life, he spends as much time as possible enjoying the company of his family and friends.

Matt Adams

Vice President - Idaho

Matthew believes in people! Everything we do professionally gives us an opportunity to connect with others and build relationships. This is what excites me about Landscape Architecture and motivates me to serve IM ASLA. He believes in a collaborative design process with a focus on Adding Value: to our client’s investment, the communities we work in, and the lives of those we work with. The best outcomes occur when we understand project vision, collaborate with many voices, integrate varied experts in our work, and understand the cultural, historical, and ecological context of place.

Matthew is a member of the Catholic Diocese of Boise Building Review Committee, a member of the Policy Advisory Board of the Gem State Housing Alliance, Idaho Vice President and chairperson of the IM ASLA Professional Development Committee. He recently served as an ad hoc member of the Idaho Legislative Committee on Land Use and Housing. His extensive professional and leadership experience uniquely qualifies him to address the importance of advocacy for Landscape Architects in varied and complex contexts.

Matthew is a Principal Landscape Architect and current Vice President of Landscape Architecture at The Land Group in Eagle, Idaho (2005 – present). Matthew earned a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture degree from Utah State University (2000) and began his career with The HLA Group in Sacramento California (2000 – 2005). Matthew is a Licensed Landscape Architect in Idaho, Washington, Oregon, Nevada, and California.

Zack Heffernan, PLA

Vice President - Montana

Zach is a licensed landscape architect originally from Spokane, WA. Zach had a 15 year career as a horticulturalist and nurseryman for nurseries in both Washington and Idaho which provided him extensive experience with plant systems in residential and commercial settings as well as landscape construction at various scales. Zach returned to the University of Idaho in 2020 to pursue a masters degree in Landscape Architecture where he was recognized as the 2023 Graduate LAF Olmsted Scholar for the University of Idaho.

After graduating in December of 2023 he joined the landscape architecture and planning team at Water & Environmental Technologies. Zach lives and works in Butte, MT where he has an opportunity to integrate sustainability, community values, and environmental resilience in a unique planning and design environment. His work emphasizes restoring native landscapes and creating functional, attractive outdoor spaces that adapt to changing conditions while aligning with local context and community needs.

Leslie Prenidville

Secretary
Rodney Evans + Partners LLC | Butte, MT

Leslie is a Licensed Landscape Architect and Project Manager at Rodney Evans + Partners, who is currently serving as the Secretary of the Idaho-Montana Chapter of ASLA. She is licensed in Idaho, Colorado and Arizona, and is a member of Idaho Women in Architecture, Engineering and Construction. Leslie has a Master’s Degree in Landscape Architecture from the University of Idaho Urban Design Center and has 11 years of experience with a background in floriculture, as well as plant knowledge and selection after beginning her career with the Walla Walla Nursery Company.

Growing up in both the agricultural lands of southeastern Washington, and high desert of Bend, Oregon, Leslie has a strong appreciation for native landscapes. Her family life has brought her to many European countries, exposing her to historic landscapes and urban designs not found in the U.S.

Leslie’s specialties are master site planning and commercial site design, planting and irrigation design, and project and construction management. In her free time, Leslie spends time with family and friends playing trivia, competitively bowling, and chasing after her niece, nephew, and cat.

Emily Voges

Treasurer
Plantas Architectures| Meridian, Idaho

Emily Voges is a licensed landscape architect in Idaho and California and currently serves as Treasurer of the Idaho–Montana Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects (IMASLA). She holds a Bachelor of Science in Landscape and Urban Horticulture from Brigham Young University and completed her CLARB-accredited studies in Landscape Architecture at the University of California, Los Angeles.

Emily began her professional career with a design/build firm in Southern California, where she developed a strong foundation in both construction and design. During her studies, she expanded her professional experience internationally, working as a landscape designer in Brazil with a focus on planning and design for diverse environmental and cultural contexts. Upon returning to the United States, she joined Studio-MLA, an award-winning firm in Los Angeles, where she contributed to a variety of public and private projects.

In 2016, Emily relocated to Boise, Idaho, and joined Stack Rock Group as a Senior Associate, gaining extensive experience in the Intermountain West region’s landscape and development practices. She is now the co-founder of Plantas Architectures, a multidisciplinary firm she established with her husband, specializing in landscape architecture and architectural design.

Outside of her professional practice, Emily enjoys spending time with her husband, their three children, and two Australian Shepherds.

Celeste Penny

Celeste Penny is a second-generation Landscape Architect serving as the member-at-large. She earned her bachelor’s and Master’s degree in landscape architecture from the University of Idaho and is a licensed Landscape Architect. Helen Casey

North Idaho Section Chair
Architects West | Coeur d'Alene, Idaho

Helen is serving as the North Idaho Chair for IMASLA. She is a landscape designer at Architects West in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho and is currently pursuing licensure. She graduated from the University of Idaho with a Bachelor's of Science in Landscape Architecture.

Helen is passionate about the environment and curating the user experience through landscape architecture. She is from Kingston, Idaho, and grew up spending much time outdoors and continues to explore the world and the profession. Her experience includes a variety of public projects including parks and recreation, K-12, higher education, and municipal sites. She enjoys public outreach, graphic renderings, and continued learning everyday within the career. 

Kendra Piedalue

Western Montana Section Chair
Sanbell | Bozeman, MT

Kendra is a licensed landscape architect with a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture with honors from Ball State University.  Having practiced in several distinct states before settling in Montana, she brings knowledge and expertise of designing and building in contrasting climates and local cultures. With her 14 years of experience, she has worked on projects varying in size and complexity, with extensive experience in commercial site design, master planning, corporate campus and resorts, high-end single-family residential, multi-family, mixed use, design/build, and parks and recreation. Her work emphasizes balancing design excellence with constructability and community/client priorities.  As Placemaking Studio Manager, Kendra leads Sanbell’s Rocky Mountain team of Landscape Architects, Designers, and Planners in shaping inclusive, people-centered places that strengthen and celebrate communities.

Neil Kiner, PLA

Eastern Montana Section Chair
Second Nature Consulting | Billings, MT

Neil Kiner is a Partner and Founder of Second Nature Consulting, bringing more than two decades of experience in landscape architecture and site development. A graduate of North Dakota State University, Neil has built a respected career leading complex commercial and multifamily development projects across the region.

Neil is recognized for his strategic design approach and deep understanding of development processes, municipal coordination, and construction delivery. His expertise has made him a trusted partner for commercial developers throughout the Mountain West and Upper Midwest, where he has helped shape long-term growth in communities of all sizes. As Second Nature continues to expand, Neil now manages projects in multiple states, reflecting his professional licensure and growing demand for his leadership in commercial site design.

His commitment to advancing the profession extends beyond project work. Neil was recently elected for a second term as the Eastern Montana Chair on the Executive Committee of the Idaho–Montana Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA), where he continues to advocate for responsible landscape development and professional mentorship.

Neil’s dedication to collaboration, client service, and design excellence continues to drive the success of Second Nature Consulting and the communities it serves.

Maggie Clark, PLA

Trustee
The Land Group | Pocatello, Idaho

Maggie Clark is a licensed Landscape Architect who is currently serving as the Chapter Trustee. Although she grew up on a farm in southwest Montana she has spent her professional career in Idaho. After earning a bachelor’s degree in Landscape Architecture from the University of Idaho, she spent five years as a Project Manager/Designer for a design/build landscape construction company in Boise. In this position, Maggie gained valuable field knowledge while supervising the installation of a range of projects including high-end residential and complex commercial projects. She made the transition into public sector as a Design Professional/Project Manager for the Development Bureau for Idaho State Parks and Recreation. After relocating to Pocatello for her husband’s job she became the Project Manager in the Public Works Department for the City, working on transportation infrastructure, large scale urban development, river corridor restoration, urban parks, and the associated public involvement for these projects. Since 2021 she has been working for design firms located in Boise. Maggie works on a variety of projects including subdivisions, parks, streetscapes, business complexes and mixed use development. Her experience working in the private and public sectors has shaped Maggie’s well rounded professional approach. 

Maggie is committed to being an active advocate for the profession of Landscape Architecture. Maggie is passionate about being involved in the community and regional conservation efforts. Maggie and her husband have two little boys who keep them very busy with the adventures of life.


Description of Offices

Officers and Members

Trustee

803. The trustee shall:be informed on Chapter and Society goals and objectives, policies and procedures, programs and services, and activities and events; serve as an officer on the Executive Committee of the Chapter and serve as the Chapter representative on the Board of Trustees of the Society; facilitate the conduct of the business of the Society by bringing the Chapter perspective to the Board of Trustees and the national perspective to the Executive Committee and members of the Chapter; facilitate the conduct of the business of the Board of Trustees by serving on standing councils or committees, special study groups or task forces, or as a representative or delegate of the Society; and perform such other duties as are customary for the office of chapter trustee or as may be assigned or delegated by the Board of Trustees of the Society and the Executive Committee of the Chapter.

804. The trustee shall be a Full Member elected for a term of three (3) years.The trustee shall not serve more than two (2) consecutive terms.

President

805. The president shall: set the time, place, and agenda for meetings of the Executive Committee; call special meetings of the Chapter; preside at meetings of the Chapter and the Executive Committee; represent and act for the Chapter as directed by the Executive Committee and consistent with the policies of the Society as established by the Board of Trustees; in consultation with the Executive Committee, appoint the chairs and members of standing committees, other committees, and any special study groups or task forces; dismiss appointees for failure to act or other cause; serve as a member of the Chapter Presidents Council; oversee the management and administration of Chapter programs and budgets as adopted by the Executive Committee; designate and relieve an acting president; appoint interim trustees when vacancies occur during term; provide supporting statements to the Society for Emeritus Status, Limited Status, Temporary Limited Status, and Waver of Dues applicants; report on the state of the Chapter at the annual meeting of the Chapter; and perform such other duties as are customary for the office of chapter president, or as may be assigned or delegated by the Executive Committee.

806. The president shall be a Full Member elected for a term of two (2) years.

Acting President

807. Should the president through illness, injury, or other cause become temporarily unable to perform the duties of the office of president, the president-elect, a vice president, or the immediate past president shall be designated as acting president.The designation shall be made by the president or by a majority vote of the entire voting membership of the Executive Committee if the president is unable to act.The acting president shall perform the duties of the president until relieved by the president if the designation is made by the president or by the Executive Committee if the designation is made by the Executive Committee.

President Elect

808. The president-elect shall:in consultation with the Executive Committee, select for appointment when he or she assumes office as president the chairs and members of standing committees, other committees, and any special study groups or task forces; represent and act for the Chapter as directed by the president and consistent with the policies of the Society as established by the Board of Trustees; serve as acting president when designated by the president or the Executive Committee; and perform such other duties as are customary for the office of chapter president-elect or as may be assigned or delegated by the president.

809. The president-elect shall be a Full Member elected for a term of two (2) years.

Immediate Past President

810. The immediate past president shall:represent and act for the Chapter as directed by the president and consistent with the policies of the Society as established by the Board of Trustees; serve ex officio as a member of the Nominating Committee; serve as acting president when designated by the president or the Executive Committee; and perform such other duties as are customary for the office of chapter immediate past president or as may be assigned or delegated by the president.

811. The immediate past president shall be a Full Member serving for a term of one (1) year after completion of their duties as president.

Vice Presidents

812. The vice presidents shall:serve as liaisons for the president to standing committees, other committees, and any special study groups or task forces; monitor the management and administration of Chapter programs and budgets as adopted by the Executive Committee; represent and act for the Chapter as directed by the president and consistent with the policies of the Society as established by the Board of Trustees; serve as acting president when designated by the president or the Executive Committee; and perform such other duties as are customary for the office of chapter vice president or as may be assigned or delegated by the president.

813. The vice presidents shall be Full Members elected for terms of two (2) years. One vice president shall be a resident of the state of Idaho and one shall be a resident of Montana. Each vice president shall oversee the specific activities within each of their states.

Secretary

814. The secretary shall:maintain a record of the proceedings of the business meetings of the Chapter and the Executive Committee; prepare and issue notices of the meetings of the Chapter and the Executive Committee; prepare, issue, and receive ballots; administer annual and special elections and notify candidates of election results; serve ex officio as a member of the Constitution and Bylaws Committee; maintain the Constitution and Bylaws of the Chapter; certify documents; and perform such other duties as are customary for the office of chapter secretary or as may be assigned or delegated by the president.

815. The secretary shall be a Full or Associate Member elected for a term of two (2) years.

Treasurer

816.The treasurer shall:collect all fees, dues, charges, and other funds due the Chapter; be the custodian of all Chapter funds and disburse such funds only as authorized by the Executive Committee; keep the accounts of the Chapter that shall be open at all times to inspection by the Executive Committee; present quarterly reports on the financial condition of the Chapter and year-end financial statements to the Executive Committee; and perform such other duties as are customary for the office of chapter treasurer or as may be assigned or delegated by the president.

817. The treasurer shall be a Full or Associate Member elected for a term of two (2) years.

Section Chairs

818. Administration of Chapter sections is vested in the section chairs.The section chairs shall:be informed on Chapter goals and objectives, policies and procedures, programs and services, and activities and events; serve as a member of and represent the section on the Executive Committee of the Chapter; facilitate the conduct of the business of the Chapter by bringing the section perspective to the Executive Committee and the Chapter perspective to the members of the section; facilitate the conduct of the business of the Executive Committee serving on standing or other committees or special study groups or task forces; and perform such other duties as are customary for the position of section chair or as may be assigned or delegated by the Executive Committee of the Chapter.

819. The section chairs shall be Full or Associate Members elected for terms of one (1) years.

At-Large Members

820. The at-large members shall:serve as liaisons to the general membership and otherwise support the normal functions and positions of the other officers of the Executive Committee; and perform such other duties as are customary for the position of at-large member or as may be assigned or delegated by the Executive Committee of the Chapter.

821. The at-large members shall be Full or Associate Members elected for terms of one (1) years and no more than one(1) at-large member shall be elected from either state region.

Non-Voting Members

822. Nonvoting members of the Executive Committee shall include the student chapter presidents and such other persons as determined necessary and appropriate by the Executive Committee.
