Landscape Designer | Full Time, Kalispell/Missoula, MT

Salary Range: $49,000.00 To 58,000.00 Annually

WGM Group is seeking a Landscape Designer to join our dynamic planning and design firm in either Missoula or Kalispell, MT. We are a comprehensive multi-disciplinary engineering firm including, planning & design, survey, environmental and natural resource management with office locations in Bozeman, Kalispell, Missoula, and Hamilton. This role will work closely with senior landscape architecture and planning staff to deliver design in accordance with project goals for a range of project types such as parks and recreational facilities, residential and mixed-use developments, commercial centers, transportation corridors, waterfront developments, and nature areas.

Role & Responsibilities:

As an integral player in our firm, you will: 

  • Prepare drawings, design layouts, graphics, and features for a variety of small landscape architecture projects or selected segments of larger projects.

  • Assist in preparation of submittal sets including schematic design, design development, and construction documentations, prepare site plans, develop construction details, and write specifications in coordination with senior staff while exhibiting increased ability to produce drawings independently.

  • Perform analyses of design and planning studies including conceptual plan studies, design development, presentation graphics, freehand sketches, and base map preparation.

  • Assist senior landscape architecture staff with field investigations to evaluate existing conditions.

  • Assist in the public involvement process including preparation of public outreach materials as well as attending public outreach events.

  • Select materials for supervisor review based on client desire, budget, and climate parameters, integrating sustainable design features and materials when feasible.

  • Under supervision, conduct on-site inspections to assure adherence to final plans and observe construction techniques.

  • Assist higher level personnel with tasks including but not limited to the preparation of written reports, meeting minutes, memoranda and correspondence.

  • May prepare scope of work for small projects and determine the required fees.

Qualifications:

As a valued member of our team, at a minimum you will have:

  • Bachelor's degree in landscape architecture from an accredited LAAB program.

  • 1-5 years of Landscape Design experience.

  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of landscape architecture; drafting procedures and practices; planting and construction materials, construction detailing and appropriate usage in the design and implementation of landscape and planning projects.

  • Proficiency in both 2D and 3D software programs, which include AutoCAD, Land FX, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe InDesign, Sketchup, and Lumion.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Ability to analyze problems in terms of design, physical, and social form.

  • Ability to create freehand sketches and/or color renderings for presentations.

  • Excellent ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing and work collaboratively on a team.

  • Ability to multitask on a diverse range of projects and manage time according to task, budget, and PM needs to meet fast-paced project timelines.

Preferred:

  • Ability to prepare scope for small projects.
