Summary Statement:
Boise Parks and Recreation maintains more than 90 parks, 200+ miles of trails, 25 miles of the Boise River Greenbelt pathway, and hundreds of acres of open space. Our recreational amenities include Zoo Boise, two golf courses, aquatic facilities, Idaho IceWorld, and more. 
Associate Landscape Architect:

  • Coordinates landscape and construction projects for Boise Parks and Recreation.

  • Performs advanced professional landscape architect work relating to the planning, design, development, and construction of City parks, and facilities. 

  • Works under general direction work requires initiative and independent judgment.

Essential Functions:
Conducts pre and post-bid meetings, and prepares letters of recommendation and contracts for services. Manages payments and accounting of project budgets. Reviews plans submitted by consultants. Performs site visits and field inspections to determine work progress and conformance to established contracts. Maintains documentation on project consultants. Prepares construction contract changes for Department approval. Negotiates with contractors and recommends remedial activity. (40%)

Elicits input from and manages projects with various governmental agencies, donors, partners, and citizen interest groups. Coordinates and hosts public meetings. Acts as a professional and technical consultant for the department and City in the review of project plans and specifications regarding maintenance and design issues of park facilities. Creates development agreements with partners to assist in an organized progression of park development. (35%)

Prepares master plans, renderings, cost estimates, construction drawings, and other necessary work for the completion of design projects. Reviews ongoing and completed plans for compliance with approved standards, City codes, and numerous acts and regulations such as Erosion and Sediment Control, Historic Preservation, and Playground Safety Standards. Develops and writes specifications, guidelines, and competitive bid documents. (25%)

Requirements:
Required Knowledge, Experience, And Training
Bachelor’s degree with major course work in a field related to Landscape Architecture, Urban Planning, or similar field, or equivalent level of professional experience.

Three years of progressively responsible landscape architecture experience, performing project design and/or construction management work, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.

Working knowledge of a wide scope of design criteria as they apply to site amenities and landscape features; effective project management techniques; principles and practices of Landscape Architecture including ecology, sustainability, stormwater management, plant selection, construction techniques, and professional practices.

Ability to prepare designs, perspective drawings, color renderings, construction drawings, specifications, and cost estimates for construction projects; estimate labor or material costs from blueprints or work plans and prepare initial project budgets; analyze, interpret, and report research findings and make recommendations; utilize computer-aided design (CAD) software; prepare specifications, design guidelines, and competitive bid documents; prepare contract documents for various services. Reviews or checks the work product of others to ensure conformance to department standards, City Codes, and other regulations affecting work, manages construction schedules; schedule work of subcontractors and act as general contractor; properly and thoroughly inspect materials and workmanship; determine status of construction work and verify adherence to contractual obligations; establish priorities and meet deadlines and objectives; display an attitude of cooperation and work harmoniously with all levels of City employees, the general public and other organizations; communicate effectively in the English language at a level necessary for efficient job performance; complete assignments in a timely fashion; understand and comply with all rules, policies and regulations; maintain prompt and regular attendance; perform all essential and marginal functions as assigned by an authorized employee.

Individuals must be capable of operating vehicles safely and have an acceptable driving record.

Preferred Knowledge, Experience, And Training
Working knowledge of civil engineering and or architecture; a wide scope of design criteria as they apply to site amenities and landscape features; legal descriptions of land parcels; effective management techniques.

Ability to plan and design all phases of park development projects; to organize and direct the work of consultants and contractors.

Registration as a Professional Landscape Architect

PMP certification(s) required by the Erosion Control and Sedimentation Ordinance, National Playground Safety Inspector

Licensing And Other Requirements:
Valid state-issued driver’s license.

Applicants must be able to pass City of Boise background check processes which includes a criminal history check and reference checks in accordance with the City of Boise Hiring Process Regulation
