  • Idaho Panhandle National Forest (Coeur d’Alene, ID)

The Northern Region is seeking landscape architects to join our team in rebuilding a community of practice for landscape architecture, sustainable recreation, outdoor accessibility, and scenery management services.   • Positions are full-time, permanent positions at the GS-11 level

  • Positions are open to current federal employees as well as all United States Citizens.

Organizational structure of the positions…

  • Positions work independently on units, as well as in collaboration with other professions and landscape architects in the region.

  • Along with existing landscape architects in the region, this new cadre of positions will serve to support each other as collective peers, rebuilding a community of practice for networking, training, and support.

Duties and work assignments may include…

  • Conceptual plans, site plans, master plans

  • Design narratives, cost estimates, construction documents

  • Project management and monitoring

  • Surveys and transition plans for recreation sites and trails to meet outdoor accessibility

  • Trails, trailhead, scenic overlooks, campgrounds, and other recreation site improvements

  • Visual (scenery management) inventory, assessments, and monitoring

  • Place-based and mid-level recreation plans

  • Recreation settings and opportunities inventory and priority facility analysis

  • Historic recreation context research for recreation sites

  • Forest restoration and vegetation management project design and analysis

  • Interpretative signs, kiosks, and other media

  • Scenic byways/bikeways/trails corridor planning and projects

  • Community and partner level strategic planning efforts and events

  • Collaboration with other landscape architects, recreation, and interdisciplinary staff areas

About the Region:

The Northern Region of the US Forest Service contains 9 National Forests and 1 National Grassland within the states of Idaho, Montana, and North and South Dakotas. These national forests and grassland provide forest products for communities, forage for cattle and wildlife, habitat for fish, plants, and animals, and some of the finest recreation opportunities in the country.
